Responsibilities Around Falls Intervention and Hospital Admissions – Residential and Nursing Setting

These one-day courses will cover how to respond to a fall, including top-to-toe techniques and when it is necessary to phone for help. This course will look at the benefits of evidence-based techniques and how these benefit older people, including reducing falls. This is being delivered in conjunction with the Ambulance Service.

What to expect:

  • What to do in the event of a fall?
  • Exercise: Who, What, When and How?
  • Interventions that can be put in place to help reduce falls
  • Post fall observation
  • Best practice policy for providers
  • Falls checklist and working with urgent care

 

You will learn how to respond to a fall using a:

  • Primary Survey – This initial assessment is designed to help the Emergency Medical Responder detect all immediate threats to life following a fall.
  • Secondary Survey – This assessment will help the Emergency Medical Responder identify specific injuries resulting from the fall, and will assist in making the correct decision whether a 999 call is required.
  • Having a good understanding and practical skill when assessing falls will give staff increased confidence to make decisions.
