Advanced Infection Control and Health Management Pathway

4 February - 10:00 am - 4:00 pm

Fully funded

Starting 4th February 2020

The Advanced Infection Control and Health Management pathway is based on local and national guidelines, as well as local services and initiatives related to health that have been highlighted from the local NHS as needing more widespread training. It is designed to upskill your staff member into an Infection Control and Health Management Pathway Champion by teaching them preventative techniques that can stop certain health conditions worsening, or in some cases, even starting, as well as managing conditions and deterioration. Upon completion, the Champion will receive Level 3 delivering training qualification, a Level 3 unit in Contribute to Raising Awareness of Health Issues, an accredited course in coaching and mentoring, and obtain a resource toolkit in Infection Control and Health Management Pathway, so knowledge and practice can be cascaded down to staff teams.

This Pathway is delivered by an Infection Control and Health Management specialist and covers:

  • Infection Control Management and audits
  • Flu and managing outbreaks
  • Catheter Care Management
  • Vital signs and appropriate intervention
  • Managing Neurological conditions
  • Respiratory Care and Condition management
  • Urinary Tract Infection
  • Acute Kidney Injury
  • Identifying Sepsis

The Champion will receive a Level 3 Delivering Training qualification and a Level 3 unit qualification in Contribute to Raising Awareness of Health issues, using the content covered within the course. Champions will be expected to act as a lead following the course and to cascade knowledge to staff teams. It is vital that you choose a staff member at a senior level, with authority to supervise staff, and the confidence to pass on knowledge. All champions will have coursework to be completed in and out of the classroom.

At the end of the Pathway, the Champion and their Manager will work together in an action planning session to agree on how they can progress following the course and three months later attend a Next Steps session to discuss impact.

Please note this pathway has been adapted from the Health Pathway and the Respiratory and Continence Pathway.
